Values & Behaviours, Trustee Board (observer)

Are you seeking an engaging voluntary position to enhance your portfolio and increase your scope of experience? Could you use your expertise to support the effective running of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)?

If so, this is the perfect opportunity to join us and help make a real difference.

About Us

With over 115,000 members in 140 countries, the IMechE has been at the heart of the mechanical engineering profession since 1847.

We strive to improve the world through engineering by developing engineers, promoting engineering, informing opinion, and encouraging innovation.

The Role

As a Values & Behaviours, Trustee Board (observer), you will join our Board with Observer status and will play a vital role in organisational change right across IMechE.

Having Observer status means that you will be involved in Board discussions and debates whilst driving Values and Behaviours change programmes. Although not a voting role, this position is critical to providing member insight, professional opinions and advocating our change programme.

The Institution is keen to keep pace with the modern world and is currently engaging staff and members in new initiatives, including a refresh of our values to create an outstanding culture and positive behaviours right across the Institution.

Your role will primarily be to affect cultural and organisational change from Board level throughout our organisation. You will also be asked to attend around eight Trustee meetings per year as well as undertaking Values and Behaviours-related activities.

Working as the link between teams across IMechE and our Board, you will:

- Attend Trustee Board meetings and contribute to all board discussions
- Hold the Trustee Board accountable for their values and behaviours and support the board to be positive culture role models
- Champion and drive the new Values & Behaviours Working Group
- Establish initiatives to embed the values and behaviours and demonstrate proof points to the institution
- Form a grassroots community of “culture ambassadors”

Although this is not an operational role, previous operational experience within cultural change will be a prerequisite.

About You

To be considered for the role, you will need:

- To be an active member of IMechE
- Possess credible experience of working with a team or teams tasked with delivering culture change in a large organisation
- A high level of emotional intelligence (EQ) and interpersonal skills
- Excellent Communication skills and the ability to influence others and build relationships with a diverse group of people

This role represents an exciting chance for a dedicated IMechE member to play a key role in developing and enriching our organisation.

As well as gaining exposure to the highest levels of our Institution, you will also be able to develop your portfolio of activities, enhancing your experience and the value you can bring to any role.

The IMechE is an equal opportunities organisation and wishes to ensure that its volunteers are equally welcomed into an inclusive environment. We are particularly interested to hear from underrepresented membership groups.

So, if you’re seeking an outstanding, volunteering position as a Values & Behaviours, Trustee Board (observer), please select the apply button shown. Applications close at 23:59 on Sunday 7 March 2021.

Note: The Institution is always looking for great talent. If you apply for this role and are not selected, please know that we will look to see if you are suited for any of our other roles – depending on your skills and experience.
