The Role

As a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, you will play a key role in supporting the Institution’s commitment to its values, (Inclusion, Integrity, Innovation, and Impact) to support our vision of being a global, inclusive, and digitally enabled engineering community. As a member of the committee, you will work closely with the D&I Committee to promote a culture that values, celebrates and welcomes differences.

About You

Young Members are any Affiliate, Associate or member who has become professionally registered within the last ten years. The Young Member representative will ideally have a combination of the following characteristics in addition to those of the Committee Member specification (as set out on the role description - page 3 - attached to this role advert):
• A strong passion for fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging within the IMechE
• A commitment to advocating for an inclusive and diverse profession
• A strategic mindset with a proactive approach
• Good communication skills - ability to work collaboratively as a team

Experience in one or more of the following areas are welcome but not essential:
• Updating processes and/or policies
• Knowledge and experience in the diversity and inclusion field
• Experience collecting, analysing or storing equity data and making interventions
• Experience working with committees, councils and/or boards within the IMechE

Your role:

• Actively participate and collaborate with other committee members in defining the D&I strategic direction, goals, and priorities in line with the IMechE’s 2030 strategy and the D&I Strategy.
• Be an advocate/ambassador for the Institution's values, translating them into meaningful actions that makes a difference to our organisation and beyond
• Represent the D&I Committee at Young Members Board, serving as a key point of contact for sharing information, activities and best practices
• Stay informed about industry and professional membership sector best practices and emerging trends withing the D&I space
• Identify, support and champion strategic partnerships with external organisations and networks which supports IMechE’s D&I agenda or wider strategic goals
• Participate in ad hoc projects as and when necessary (eg. reviewing our webpage to provide feedback and ideas)
• Act as an IMechE Ambassador at external events and meetings to promote IMechE’s D&I agenda amongst the engineering community

Time Commitment:

We are committed to collaborating closely with you to provide maximum flexibility and to ensure that your volunteer responsibilities fit around your personal and professional commitments. The ideal candidate for this position should be available to join virtual meetings throughout the year.

• D&I Committee meetings (four meetings per year of two hours each). Once a year we host an in person meeting for members based in UK, with a hybrid option available for our international members.
• Young Members Board meetings - this involves (four meetings per year of two hours, of which one meeting is in person and the rest are held virtually)
• Other ad-hoc meetings as required and training and development opportunities (for example attending a training, event or additional meetings linked to specific projects).

This should be considered a time commitment of approximately one day per month.
Reasonable T&S will be reimbursed.

We are now looking for a Membership Development Executive to join us on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Role

As a Membership Development Executive, you will create and sustain membership opportunities with the armed forces and academia.

Supporting the Membership Development Team, you will develop existing accounts with the armed forces, engaging with Armed Forces personnel and growing membership opportunities.

You will deliver presentations, one-to-one support and workshops, both virtually and face-to-face, to promote and facilitate membership recruitment. You will also undertake telemarketing activities to support on-going membership acquisition and retention.

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake travel within the South of England. There will be occasional travel across the rest of the UK.

Additionally, you will:

- Develop relationships with armed forces and academic contacts
- Undertake administrative tasks and maintain accurate records
- Support and attend conferences, exhibitions and external and IMechE events
- Support volunteer groups to develop memberships

About You

To be considered as a Membership Development Executive, you will need:

- Experience of managing your own workload and managing conflicting priorities
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent planning, reporting and communication skills
- IT literacy
- A full, valid driving licence
